Sharing is caring!

What are you grateful for today? What were you grateful for yesterday? What do you want to be grateful for tonight?

Things to be grateful for today

Gratefulness is an emotion, an action, a thought process, and sometimes even regarded as self-care. It is a way to focus and pay attention to the positive things going on in your life. So, what are things to be grateful for today?

The Weather

The weather? What?? That’s something to be grateful for today? It’s the middle of winter and a huge storm is sweeping across the nation. Why should I be grateful for the weather today?

It’s snowing in New York City, raining in other parts of the country and freezing cold in even more regions. Why should I be grateful for this?

Do you ever find yourself wishing for summer in the middle of winter? And wishing for a beautiful, blustery, snow-filled day in the middle of a hot, humid day during the summer?

Appreciate the way things are now, including the weather. You can’t control the weather and you don’t know when you’ll get to see a day like this again.

Appreciating the weather today allows you to learn to appreciate what is right in front of you, right now.

The People Around You

There are so many ways to appreciate the people around you.

They could be your family that has helped support you and get you to where you are today.

The friends that are always there for a phone call or a quick lunch when you need them.

The friendly cashier at the store who smiled to you and just made your day a little bit nicer.

The not-so-nice stranger who bumped into you on the street, teaching you compassion and patience for others.

The people around you are so important and are probably just as grateful to you as you are to them.

The City You Live In

The city you live in is an important place. No matter where you live in the world, the city you live in now will shape you. The city where you grew up also played a role in shaping you.

Not everyone loves the city they are in now. Some people hate where they live.

They don’t like the climate or they find their city boring. But, it is still an important thing to be grateful for.

Even if you don’t like the city you currently live in, you can still be grateful for it.

And if you do love the city you live in, you can find even more to love about it.

You can find restaurants and cafes to love. Or even experiences or places that are unique to the city that you are in.

There may be much more to your city than you even realized.

This one may seem like an odd thing to be grateful for, but if you do still have you sense of taste, it should definitely be something you are grateful for today.

A couple of weeks ago, I learned about a disorder called ageusia, the loss of being able to taste.

Something like that had never even crossed my mind before. It made me think about what it would be like to not be able to taste food and drinks anymore.

Would it be easier to eat healthier because a piece of grilled chicken on a bed of kale would taste just the same as a steak served with a side of mac and cheese?

On the flip side, if you could no longer taste, you couldn’t taste all the incredible dishes that are made all around you and around the world. Unable to discern between them.

It made me realize that I never learned to really appreciate my sense of taste. Losing it would change so much for me.

I want to appreciate my sense of taste while I have it.

Wherever you are reading this and whatever you are reading this, whether a desktop or a laptop, an iPhone or a Samsung, technology is what has enabled you to do this.

The technology to hold a device in your hand, to connect with people all over the world, to learn about anything you want.

It is really incredible with what you can accomplish with technology now.

Smartphones and computers have become so ingrained in part of our everyday lives, sometimes we forget to appreciate them for the incredible capabilities they hold.

The ability to travel is amazing. Travel opens your eyes up to new experiences, new food and new ideas.

It gets you out of your comfort zone. It lets you see incredible natural wonders and phenomena.

Travel opens you up in so many ways, every day you get to do it, you should be grateful that you can.

You should be grateful for yourself and everything about you.
